Dear All

We wish to introduce ourself and our efforts to help our younger generation of students who had been the victims of cruel fate for the last few decades in the North, East and the up-country. The future intellectuals of our Nation is struggling to have adequate educational facilities facilities, such as hostel for students from the villages which will enhance their education.

DOBA((WI) is a wellfare body/establishment of both old students and teachers and ex-teachers of Drieberg College Chavakachcheri. Its main aim is to work for the upliftment of the college and education of the students with the support and help of the Tamil Diaspora and well wishers.

You may be well aware that DOBA(WI) had been carrying on infrastucture developement in schools that lacked such facilities with the donations given by well wishers and expatriates. The monies collected and spent on schools developement projects have been duly accounted for and audited. The reords of this acturial audit is available with the management committee for inspection by anybody interested.

May we be permitted to divulge some of the charitable activities that our organisation carried out in schools for the benefit of students. We supplied urgently wanted equipments and furnitures to Sakthiamman Primary school, Kachchai Road Chavakachcheri. Other beneficieries are Amirthambigai Vidyalam Nunavil East Chavakachcheri, Saraswathy Vidyalayam Madduvil South Chavakachcheri. We were happy to build an extensive IT Center at a cost of Rs 888000 for the use of rural students at J/Mirusuvil Government Mixed school North Mirusuvil. The Director of Education Jaffna had sent a letter of appreciation of our school development works.

The latest move in this 'helping our younger generations' in our mother country initiative was to buy a 4.5 perches of highly priced land in Dutch Road Chavakachcheri for erecting a three storey (3) building for a hostel to accommodate one hundred (100) orphans and underprivileged boys.

This hostel building project is a recent prioritised scheme of the DOBA(WI)for helping those intelligent male students in the North, East and the up-country areas of Sri-lanka who are orphans and under privilleged, particularly after the last war, to pursue their studies in a peaceful and conducive environment. The selection of student from among this targetted group to this hostel will be soley on a competitive basis, without any discrimination on the ground of their ethnicity, religion, caste etc. These successful beneficiaries will be allowed to stay in the hostel and continue their studies, subject to them adhering the rules of the hostel administration until they enter universities for higher education or they seek suitable vocations.

  1. Comment on DOBAWI web Ad
The DOBAWI's determination to construct a boys hostel to accommodate one hundred students from underprivileged and orphaned children at Chavakachcheri, is visionary. The last war in May 2009 spawned 90000 widows, 75000 thousands orphans and 10000 disabled people. This is a big depletion of valuable human resources that will have a serious knock on effect in the future intellectual development of the Tamils. Tamils once were the most educated wise and intelligent people in Sri-Lanka. Now most of them have been reduced to mediocrites and intellectual paupers or near so.
The fiirst person to pass the first civil service examination in top class was late Sir Kandiah Vaithianathan during the British Raj. Unfortunately no Tamils entered the top administrative service during the last president's regime. The former president openly stated that no Tamil candidates scored the minimum marks even to be called for an interview. This a sorry saga.
It will take another decade to produce a Tamil civil servant of that calibre at this rate of education in the Tamil areas with most of the schools, farms, factories and temples that contribute to moral development and other infrastructure like roads and bridges remain destroyed depriving the Tamils of education and employment. Hence the DOBAWI's endevour to provide a hostel for intelligent boys to develope their full potential is praiseworthy and a wellcome news.
Let all of the Tamil Diaspora joinly support this project so that hidden talent of the ophans and underprivileged boys too come out and bloom and get recognised. Other wise their talent and heroic deeds get never recognised according to poet Thomas Hardy He wrote:
"Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste its sweetness on the desert air.”

Even the great revolutionary, Chairman Mao Tse-Tung of China who was a communist who usually are totalitarian, during one of his speeches stated
"Let a thousand flowers bloom, a hundred schools of thought contend".
He sensed the importance of intelligent and differing thoughts that can come only through education.
Last I like to quote from Tamil Language that is the oldest classical language that survived over 8000 years.Nalladiyar states:
    "குஞ்சி யழகும் கொடுந்தானைக் கோட்டழகும்
    மஞ்சள் அழகும் அழகல்ல - நெஞ்சத்து
    நல்லம்யாம் என்னும் நடுவு நிலைமையால்
    கல்வி அழகே அழகு"

Another Tamil Poet goes even further and describe the outlook of an educated persons and other persons who do meritorious service to humanity.

    "கண்ணிரண்டே யாவர்க்கும் கற்றோர்க்கு மூன்றுவிழி
    எண்ணுவழி ஏழாகும் ஈவோர்க்கு - நண்ணும்
    அநந்தம் தவத்தால் அருள்ஞானம் பெற்றோர்க்கு
    அநந்தம் விழியென்று அறி. "

Even Lord Krishna said "The gift which is given from a sense of duty to one from whom nothing in return is expected and which is given in the right place at the right time to a deserving person such a gift is satvic (pure)". So give profusely to the needy and thou shall be given wealth.

Therefore those who have money give in bundles and those of you who do not have big money give in coins and those who do not have either at least give your full hearted support for this important visionary building project.
